Dad,
You were an incredible man. Although you kept so many stories of the War to yourself, it defined you as a person in ways we could never possibly understand. Your Country thanks you for your service.
As a father-in-law you were always loving and caring. You called daily and before we hung up, you would have asked about my Mom, Dad, sisters, brother-in-law, niece, her husband and their child. It never cease to amaze me, that memory that you had!
At family events you would always say the prayers as the Patriarch of the family. You will always be that person in my mind’s eye. The ‘go to’ person for all the answers. You should’ve been a contestant on Jeopardy.
You loved crossword puzzles, golf, watching football, talking about the stats, sitting by the beach, listening to the Big Band music and going out to eat. Oh how you loved your soup temperature hot!
But you really loved your family the most. You would treat each and every one of us as if we were the most important person in the whole wide world. If we were troubled, you’d take our hand and say ‘look me in the eye’ and give us words of wisdom to get us through our troubles.
You had a special memory with each of us and now those memories of you will help get us through life without you.
Rest easy Dad. Your job on this earth is complete. We will miss your daily phone calls and will savor our messages that we may have luckily saved.
Until we meet again,
Your daughter-in-law,
Lisa

not Liza with a Z (which you sang to me every time as if it were the first you were singing it)
