Obituary of Ira C. Rush
Ira Charles Rush, born on December 12, 1950, passed away on November 15, 2024. He was 73 years old.
Ira is survived by his devoted wife, Carol (née Schaffer), with whom he shared a loving partnership of many years. He was the proud and beloved father of two daughters: Dara Sanchez and her husband, Amos, and Jackie Ruggiero and her husband, Robert. Ira was also the cherished grandfather of Ethan Sanchez, who brought immense joy to his life.
Ira began his academic journey at Queens College, earning a bachelor’s degree in Education, followed by a master’s degree in Psychology from St. John’s University. His career was both varied and impactful. He started as a psychologist, working in a range of professional settings. Throughout his career, Ira combined his expertise in psychology with his self-taught skills in computer technology, serving both private and public sectors. In his later pursuits, Ira embraced his love for photography, working as a photographer and photo lab technician. His passion for photography continued throughout his life, as he pursued professional projects, capturing countless memories and showcasing his deep expertise in the art.
Photography was at the heart of Ira’s life. He had a deep love for capturing moments and teaching others about the art and technology of photography. Whether behind the camera or sharing his knowledge, Ira found happiness in every click of the shutter and every conversation about his favorite subject.
Above all, Ira was a kind and generous soul who loved his family and friends dearly. He was known for going above and beyond to bring joy to others, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Ira’s memory to the Jewish Federation of Ocean County, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or a charity of one’s choice.
Ira’s warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
