My sister Carla was 18 when I was born someone I looked up to both literally and figuratively. As I got older, we became friends and would share most everything that was going on in our lives. At times, she took care of me and later, in her final years, I was able to help take care of her even if just by talking her through her treatments. As with our brother, Steve Crohn, I will miss her immensely. The memories of her family, our father and brother gathering together for holidays and other events hold strong. Later it would be my small family joining with her very large family, but the memories were the same; always filled with love and laughter and her smile.

I am deeply heartbroken over the loss of our Nana, Carla. I say our Nana not because she was in fact my grandmother, but because she treated everyone as if she was. It is rare in life to come across people that love and give warmth so openly and freely, and Carla was the very embodiment of that. Growing up in East Brunswick alongside the Shechter family, I was blessed with being a part of some of the many visits that Carla and Stan paid their family. I was always so deeply moved by their true closeness to their grandchildren, always knowing what was going on in their lives and wanting to hear more. They graced our joint family Pesach Seders for years and those Seders just won’t be the same without Carla. But like the obituary says, her spirit and legacy live on through her amazing family, and all of the goodness she has graced us all with. These kinds of things are passed down through the generations, and Amanda and Judah have been like parents to me, and Chana, Steven, Jeremy, Orly, and Michal have been like siblings to me- they are the best of the best and a true testament to Carla. Sending my deepest condolences to all of Carla’s family and friends, and may her memory forever be a blessing.
