Obituary of Harold W. Traub
In the early morning of January 12, 2023, we lost an extraordinary man – Harold “Heshie” Traub, our Dad, Grandfather, Great-grandfather, and WWII Veteran. He was born May 6, 1922 before the Great Depression, before Lindbergh’s solo flight, and only a few years after the end of WWI. He accomplished an amazing amount in his short almost 101 years.
With his high school degree in hand, he became a B-17 test pilot during WWII, a licensed aircraft mechanic, Chief of maintenance at McGuire Air Force base; served on the Lakewood Board of Education, took over the Zurlin Insurance Agency and paid the loss on the famous Laurel in the Pines Hotel; became the President of the NJ Association of Mutual Insurance Agents, then the President of the National Association. He testified before Congress, met multiple Presidents, received numerous awards and accolades , all while he remained in the Army Air Corp, Army Air Force and finally the Air Force for 20 years in the reserves, and raised his 3 boys with his wife of 61 years, Muriel. There is no way to concisely state the enormous presence he had in our lives - he just did. We will have nothing but wonderful memories of him and were blessed to have him in our lives for as long as we did. We will miss him mightily.
He is survived by his 3 boys, Michael Traub, Richard Traub and David Traub, 6 grandchildren (Adele, Russell, Seth, Michele, Melissa and Greg), and 7 great great-grandchildren (Emily, Aiden, Shayna, Fiona, Connor, Austin and Ethan).
For those that wish to attend, he will be interred on Sunday at Mt. Sinai cemetery in Lakewood with services at 10:00 a.m. at the Holocaust Chapel located next to the cemetery, 613 Ramsey Ave, Lakewood, NJ 08701. The family will be sitting Shiva at the home of Richard Traub, 18 McKinley Street, Long Branch, NJ 07740.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to either
