Obituary of Lois Zevulina Gertner
Lois Zevulina Gertner, 74, of Lakewood died suddenly February 17, 2016 while vacationing in Florida, but was comforted by her husband, sons, brother Sam, and family. Born in Monticello, NY she moved
to San Francisco where her family operated a creamery before returning to Ellenville, NY for high school. After graduating with an AA from Rider she went on a blind date New Year’s Eve 1963 and spent the next 52 years with her beloved Jerry.
Loyal to her core, she raised her four sons with a love and tenderness matched by few. Having spent over 30 years working with Les Aufseeser, DPM she cared for her work and patients with equal respect, going back to school to earn certificates in her field. She also was instrumental in starting the first Ocean County Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Association in the 1970s.
Even before semiretirement, though, she and Jerry became fixtures at the Blue Claws and gallivanting to their island St. Maartin and other ports of call. Including the entire family on such trips provided irreplaceable memories and created and enforced bonds that will last beyond the generations. Lois was the glue that held the Gertner Clan together.
Predeceased by her parents Sol and Sylvia, she is survived by husband Jerome Gertner, her sons Sean and his wife Marla of Jackson, Eric and his wife Deborah of Macungie, PA, Mitchel and his wife Ilana of Toms River, and Heath of Lakewood, and her grandchildren Matthew, Ryan, Eva, Max and Moriah. She is also survived by brothers Sam Trachtenberg of Pinehurst, NC and Irving Trachtenberg and his wife Ellen of Lexington, KY, as well as countless nieces and nephews, cousins and friends whose lives she touched.
Funeral services will be held 1:00pm Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Congregation Sons of Israel Holocaust Memorial Chapel, 613 Ramsey Avenue, Lakewood, NJ 08701. Interment will follow at Mount Sinai Cemetery, Lakewood, NJ. Donations may be made in Lois’ memory to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Belkoff-Goldstein Funeral Chapel, Lakewood, NJ.
