Obituary of Richard David Turteltaub
Richard David Turteltaub of Toms River, New Jersey formerly of Livingston, passed away
peacefully on January 22, 2016 at the age of 89. Mr. Turteltaub was born in Orange, New Jersey
and raised in West Orange. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II having served
aboard the USS Providence. Following his tour of service, he was graduated from Cornell
University. Early in his career he was a member of the real estate firm, John J. Turteltaub & Son.
Subsequently he became a real estate appraiser. He founded and was president of Affiliated
Realty Services in Chatham, New Jersey. Mr. Turteltaub achieved the designation of Member of
the Appraisal Institute and was a past president of the Appraisal Institute’s local chapter. He was
also a member of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers. While a resident of Livingston, he
served as a Republican County Committeeman and was a member of the Board of Temple
Emanuel. Following his retirement, he moved to Toms River where he enjoyed years of fishing.
In addition, he was a board member of Temple Beth Am Shalom, and was chairman of The
Historical Society of the Jewish Federation of Ocean County. Richard leaves behind his wife of
58 years, Lenore, his daughter Emily Nelson and husband John, son James and wife Linda, and
grandsons Jacob and Joshua. Richard is also survived by his sisters Miriam Miller and Joan
Rosenbaum and her husband, Joseph. We will all miss him and never forget his wisdom,
kindness, friendship, dedication and love. Services will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at
11:00 AM at Temple Beth Am Shalom, 1235 Route 70, Lakewood, New Jersey 08701 with
burial to follow at Olam Cemetery. Donations to Temple Beth Am Shalom in lieu of flowers
would be appreciated.
