Obituary of Miriam S. Roey

Miriam Sarah Roey (Urdang-Spero) died peacefully on Friday, January 10th at 94 years at her daughter Kathy’s home in Jackson where she had been under hospice care. Born in Jersey City, she lived in Lakewood from 1940 until 1985 when she moved to Whiting. She graduated Lakewood High School in 1942 and then attended Montclair State College where she was named as the most beautiful coed. Her work career included: a teacher at the Bezalel Hebrew Day School; assistant in running Dover Oil Company; and, accounts supervisor at Ocean Orthopedic. She was married on December 24th, 1944 to Lt. Kalman Roey who predeceased her in September, 2009 after 65 years of marriage. Miriam was the president of the Whiting chapter of ORT. She was also active in Hadassah. She was a great athlete in all sports including being a champion tennis and ping pong player. She was a loving mom and giving person to all with a smile that lit up the world. She was smart, energetic, and funny. Her creative poetry was featured at all events. She possessed all the best traits but was always modest about her gifts and achievements. Simply put, she was loved and admired by family, friends, and all who met her. She is survived by her son, Stephen and wife Nadgy of Rockville, MD; daughters, Loretta Clark of Albuquerque, NM, Kathy Roy of Jackson, NJ, Menucha Gershon and husband Avrohom of Chicago, IL, Debra Rumble and husband Roger of West Chester, PA, 10 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren who were all the pride and joy of her life. She was interred at Freehold Hebrew Benefit Society Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to ORT and Trees for Israel (JNF.org). Arrangements were entrusted to Belkoff-Goldstein Funeral Chapel in Lakewood.
