Obituary of Dr. Phyllis S. Berger

Dr. Phyllis S. Berger, 65, of Brick passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at Community Medical Center, Toms River, NJ. Born in Bronx, NY, and raised in Yonkers, she resided in NYC prior to settling in Brick, NJ in 1980. After receiving her BS from the University of Pennsylvania and PHD from Columbia University, Phyllis worked as a biochemist for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Later, she retired from MSK to dedicate herself as a full-time mother of two. A member of Temple Beth Or, Brick, NJ. Phyllis will be remembered as a caring and giving person who was always there for others. Predeceased by her parents, Harry and Rae Sussman; she is survived by her loving husband, Howard; son, Stuart of Brick, NJ; son, Seth and his wife, Allison of Silver Spring, MD; brother, Allen Sussman of Mercer Island, WA; and granddaughter, Risa. Funeral services will be held 2:00pm Sunday, October 25, 2015 at the Sanctuary of Abraham and Sarah Mausoleum Chapel located at Cedar Park Cemetery, 735 Forest Ave., Paramus, NJ 07652. Donations in Phyllis’s honor may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Belkoff-Goldstein Funeral Chapel, Lakewood.
